Saronida fire arrest: Woman detained after vehicle ignition burns land

A 38-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fire in Saronida, Attica, which occurred on September 4, 2026. According to the Hellenic Fire Service, the blaze began around 16:30 following the ignition of a vehicle, eventually spreading to burn approximately two stremmata of land.

Fire service statistics for the period between January 1 and September 4, 2026, reveal that 763 administrative fines totaling 1,277,352.72 euros have been issued. During this same period, 331 arrests were made in relation to arson and fire-related offenses. Of these arrests, 294 (88.82%) were attributed to negligence, while 37 (11.18%) were classified as intentional.
