Saronno street artist begins mural inspired by Legnanino masterpiece

Street artist Andrea Ravo Mattoni has begun work on a new mural in Saronno, Italy, inspired by a 17th-century masterpiece. The artwork reinterprets a detail from ‘The Marriage of Bacchus and Ariadne’ by the Baroque painter Stefano Maria Legnani, known as ‘il Legnanino’.

The original painting is currently housed in the Biblioteca Civica di Saronno. By transferring this historical image onto a public building facade, the project aims to make the city's artistic heritage more accessible to the general public and younger generations without the need for library visiting hours.

This initiative is part of the ‘Varese Cultura 2030’ project, a cultural program led by the Province of Varese and the Municipality of Saronno. The broader program includes contemporary theater and immersive projections to integrate contemporary languages with urban spaces. The mural is scheduled to be presented on October 4 in Piazza Ugo La Malfa.
