Sarvam AI signs five-year pact with India's Ministry of Defence

AI startup Sarvam has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India's Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) under the Ministry of Defence. The agreement aims to develop and deploy artificial intelligence applications for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as joint organizations under HQ IDS.

The collaboration focuses on enhancing military capabilities through decision support, target acquisition, and data fusion across the sensor-to-shooter loop. The projects will also cover training and operational requirements. To ensure security, the work will be executed by Chanakya, Sarvam's firewalled division dedicated to national security and defense.

As part of India's push for self-reliance in defense, the framework provides the three services with access to a common technology stack, including foundation models like Sarvam 105B, agentic AI infrastructure, and geospatial perception systems. The agreement emphasizes the use of sovereign infrastructure and mandates that human oversight be retained for all operational decisions.
