Sasaram court sentences man to life imprisonment for fiancée's murder
The Rohtas Civil Court has sentenced Sonu Kumar to life imprisonment for the murder of his pregnant fiancée. The court also imposed a fine of 30,000 rupees on the convict.
The incident dates back to February 2025. Kumar, a delivery boy from the Gumla district of Jharkhand, was in a relationship with a local woman. After the woman became pregnant, the families had agreed to a marriage scheduled for July 2025.
Under the pretext of taking her to Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela, Kumar left with the woman on a motorcycle. Instead of reaching their destination, he traveled to the Dhoudarh area of Sasaram, where he killed her with a sharp weapon and hid her body in a mustard field. Following the crime, he discarded the murder weapon and the victim's clothing in a river in the Kaimur district. The conviction was based on the testimony of 12 witnesses.
