Sascha seeks Bundeswehr career despite diabetes diagnosis

Sascha, a 28-year-old featured on the RTLZWEI social reportage ‘Hartz und herzlich’, is seeking to transition from receiving citizen's benefit (Bürgergeld) to a career in the German military (Bundeswehr).

Living in Trier-West with his husband Mike, Sascha has faced numerous setbacks in his job search over the last five years. He recently attended a Bundeswehr information day in Trier to pursue his goal of financial independence and professional achievement. However, his ambition faces a significant obstacle: Sascha suffers from Type 1 diabetes. Because this chronic condition typically results in being classified as ‘not fit for military service’ during medical examinations, his ability to fulfill the health requirements for enlistment remains uncertain.
