Saskatchewan, Manitoba brace for extreme heat wave, humidex may reach 45

Environment Canada has warned of a prolonged heat wave across Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with daytime highs expected to climb into the mid‑30s Celsius and humidex values reaching 45, especially in southeastern Saskatchewan and the Manitoba Parklands. Orange‑level heat warnings cover the Yorkton region and the southeastern corner of Saskatchewan, while a yellow heat advisory applies to western areas. Overnight temperatures are forecast to stay unusually warm, remaining above 16 °C and in some spots near 20 °C, limiting nighttime relief.

Health officials advise residents—particularly older adults, young children, pregnant people and those with chronic conditions—to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated and seek medical help for symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. A yellow warning also highlights wildfire smoke reducing air quality in northern Manitoba and southern Saskatchewan, including Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Regina.
