Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe criticised for taxpayer-funded trip to Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe travelled to Washington, D.C. to attend the funeral of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham after being invited by the senator’s family. The provincial government said Moe would join federal representatives and other international figures, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to pay respects.

NDP Trade and Export Development critic Kim Breckner sent a letter demanding the premier disclose whether public money funded the trip and request a detailed cost breakdown. She questioned the appropriateness of using taxpayer funds for a ceremony honoring a figure who had supported policies perceived as hostile to Canada. Saskatchewan NDP leader Carla Beck echoed the concern, linking the trip to broader issues such as recent U.S. tariffs and a looming strike by roughly 14,000 front‑line health‑care workers.

The provincial government defended the attendance, stating Graham was a longstanding friend of Saskatchewan who had discussed Canada‑U.S. trade and energy security with Moe on several occasions.
