Saskatchewan province to match federal funding for three new event centres

The federal Build Communities Strong Fund, allocating $51 billion over ten years beginning in 2026‑27, includes a $6 billion Direct Delivery stream for community infrastructure, climate adaptation and regional projects. Saskatchewan’s provincial government announced it will match future federal contributions for three event‑centre projects in Prince Albert, Saskatoon and North Battleford, aligning with shared priorities of regional infrastructure, reconciliation and economic growth.

Mayor Bill Powalinsky of Prince Albert said the commitment, though not yet quantified, will help move the projects forward and could also provide emergency fire‑base capacity for northern wildfires. The province, local governments and the Woodland Cree First Nations are working together to secure the final funding mix, with a design ready and construction awaiting approved financing.
