In the early hours of July 27, 2024, Loon Lake RCMP responded to a report of a drug‑impaired person on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation. Officers arrested two men wanted on outstanding warrants without incident. A 40‑year‑old woman, later identified as Rose Georgina Angus, became confrontational, punched two officers and was arrested outside the residence. Police said she received treatment for minor injuries.

A video of the encounter, posted on Facebook by Angus’s daughter, showed her face covered in blood and was widely shared on social media, sparking public concern. Indigenous groups, including the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) and the Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC), issued joint statements calling for accountability and a transparent investigation.

Initially, the RCMP judged the force used as reasonable and declined to refer the matter to the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). After the video's circulation, the RCMP reversed its position and formally requested an independent SIRT investigation, which SIRT has accepted. The officers remain on active duty while the probe proceeds. Angus was charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest, obstructing police and possession of cocaine, and was released after her first court appearance with the Crown Prosecutor’s consent.
