Saskatchewan RCMP custody death investigated by SIRT

A 37‑year‑old man died while in custody at the Turtleford RCMP detachment in Saskatchewan. Police entered a Thunderchild First Nation residence on July 29 to arrest him for several break‑and‑enter offences, obtained a judicial warrant, and took him into custody without incident. He was booked, placed in a cell, and later showed signs of medical distress. RCMP officers administered naloxone and provided first aid, but he was pronounced dead at 4:01 p.m.

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) has deployed two investigators and will appoint a community liaison. The investigation will examine police conduct and the circumstances of the death, with a public report expected within 90 days.
