Saskatchewan Roughriders reacquire kicker Brett Lauther
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have reacquired veteran kicker Brett Lauther from the Ottawa Redblacks in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 CFL draft.
Lauther, 35, has seen a significant performance turnaround in 2026. After a difficult previous season where his 72.2 percent field-goal accuracy ranked last in the league, he has recorded 32 successful field goals out of 34 attempts for Ottawa, a 94.1 percent success rate.
Roughriders general manager Jeremy O’Day stated that the decision to release Lauther earlier this year was based on the information available at the time. He noted that the move may have provided Lauther with a fresh perspective and expressed excitement about his return to the team. Saskatchewan’s kicking game has struggled recently, with rookie Alex Hale being moved to the practice roster after a 75 percent field-goal success rate.
