Saskatchewan speed cameras resume in August after new vendor
Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) announced that the province’s photo‑speed cameras will be back online in August 2026. The cameras were taken offline at the end of May after SGI’s former provider, Redflex Traffic Systems Ltd. operating as Verra Mobility Systems, terminated its contract early. SGI has now signed a new agreement with Global Traffic Group Ltd., which will supply and operate the system beginning in August.
The deployment will keep the same nine camera sites, including locations in Regina’s Wascana Parkway and Saskatoon’s Circle Drive South Bridge, and fines and signage will remain unchanged. The only hardware change is the replacement of the existing grey box mounts with pole‑mounted cameras; no additional camera locations are planned. While the system was inactive, police continued to monitor the roads for speeding.
SGI’s contract with Verra, in place since 2020, included a monthly per‑camera fee covering equipment, installation and ticket processing. Verra’s decision to end the contract followed a termination notice from its parent company, Avis Budget Group, and was accompanied by a sharp drop in Verra’s share price from $13.08 to $3.85.
