Saskatoon construction causes traffic gridlock near University of Saskatchewan
Significant traffic gridlock is affecting commuters in Saskatoon, specifically impacting students at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) and hospital staff. The congestion stems from a combination of the recent reopening of the University Bridge following months of repairs and ongoing construction on College Drive.
The work on College Drive is part of the city’s ‘Link’ bus rapid transit project. Current construction involves implementing platforms between Clarence and Cumberland Avenues, which has restricted traffic to single lanes in each direction along with various intersection changes.
University officials have acknowledged the delays and advised students to communicate with instructors regarding travel issues. The city maintains that while these projects cause temporary inconvenience, they are intended to provide long-term improvements to transportation and campus infrastructure.
