Saskum Lake wildfire grows to 841 hectares in North Thompson

The Saskum Lake wildfire in the North Thompson region has grown to an estimated 841.2 hectares. Discovered on July 28, the blaze is located approximately 35 km east of Little Fort and Chu Chua.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reported that the fire continues to burn in steep, largely inaccessible terrain, particularly along the north flank. While the fire has reached more accessible terrain on its south, east, and west flanks, responders are prioritizing safety in difficult environments.

Ground and air resources remain active where terrain allows. Officials warned that a warming and drying trend could lead to increased fire behavior. The Saskum Lake Rec Site remains closed to the public.
