Sassari Mayor issues ultimatum over water emergency

Giuseppe Mascia, the Mayor of Sassari and the Metropolitan City, has issued an ultimatum regarding a recurring water emergency in Sassari and other centers in Northwest Sardinia. The mayor criticized the ongoing service disruptions, which have included water restrictions and instances of turbid, foul-smelling water.

A primary cause of the instability is the failure to interconnect the final sections of the Coghinas 1 and Coghinas 2 aqueducts at Porto Torres. While the regional government has allocated significant investments for modernizing the aging water network, the necessary interconnection remains incomplete. Mascia stated that previous emergency protocols and agreements made eighteen months ago have not been honored, demanding immediate clarity on the progress of the pipeline restoration to prevent further malfunctions.
