Sassari Municipality approves tax debt reduction for Opera Gesù Nazareno

The Municipality of Sassari has approved a tax settlement to assist the Opera Gesù Nazareno (Ge. Na.) in its efforts to avoid bankruptcy. The municipal council, led by Mayor Giuseppe Mascia, decided to grant a discount of over 90% on the institution's accumulated waste tax (Tari) debt.

The total credit owed to the municipality was approximately 109,000 euros. Under the new agreement, Ge. Na. will pay roughly 11,000 euros, representing 10% of the original amount. This measure is intended to support the socio-sanitary center's ongoing preventive arrangement procedure, which aims to ensure continuity of care for patients and protect specialized jobs in Northern Sardinia.

Budget Councilor Giuseppe Masala stated that the decision would not negatively impact the municipal budget, as 90% of the credit had already been prudentially devalued and placed in the Bad Debt Fund. The administration noted that a settlement is more advantageous than judicial liquidation, which would likely yield little financial recovery for the city.
