Sassari nursery schools face service and staffing cuts

Labor unions in Sassari have raised alarms regarding significant budget cuts affecting local nursery schools and early childhood services. The FP CGIL Nord Sardegna union issued a formal letter to the Mayor of Sassari requesting an urgent meeting to address the crisis.

The cuts, linked to a new 2026-2030 procurement specification, involve a drastic reduction in total working hours for educational and auxiliary staff. For example, the via Cottoni complex is facing a reduction of 495.50 annual hours for educational personnel and 11 weekly hours for auxiliary staff.

Union representatives warn that these measures threaten jobs for teachers and school staff, while also risking the quality of childcare. Specific concerns include a worsening educator-to-child ratio in certain sections, which has shifted from 1:5 to 1:6. The union emphasizes that these services are vital for supporting female employment and combating educational poverty.
