Sassari-Olbia highway lacks service areas, prompting calls for regional action

Tore Piana of the Sardinian Action Party has issued an appeal to the Sardinia Region and local authorities to address the lack of service areas along the SS 729 highway, which connects Sassari and Olbia.

ANAS has formally confirmed that there are currently no service areas for refueling or rest along the approximately 104 km stretch of the highway, and the agency does not plan to build any. However, ANAS noted that private operators could establish fuel distribution plants if they obtain the necessary authorizations and concessions from competent authorities.

Piana emphasized that the SS 729 is a strategic artery used daily by commuters, commercial vehicles, and tourists. He argued that travelers should not have to plan their trips based on the availability of fuel and called for regional coordination to identify suitable areas where private companies can operate.
