Sassari water emergency triggered by aqueduct failure

A major technical failure in the Coghinas 2 aqueduct in Castelsardo has triggered a water emergency affecting several areas in Sardinia, including Sassari, Porto Torres, Stintino, and Alghero. The fault has disrupted the raw water supply to the Truncu Reale and Monte Agnese water treatment plants operated by Abbanoa.

In Sassari, water service interruptions are scheduled across multiple neighborhoods. Areas fed exclusively by the Truncu Reale reservoir, such as the Historic Center, Monte Rosello, Sacro Cuore, and Piandanna, face cuts from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning. Additional outages are planned for the Via Milano area starting Tuesday night, and the Predda Niedda and Li Punti neighborhoods starting Tuesday afternoon.

Enas, the Sardinian water authority, is coordinating repairs to resolve the issue. Abbanoa has deployed a dedicated task force to manage the emergency and coordinate with local mayors and sensitive facilities. Porto Torres is attempting to maintain service using wells from Li Pidriazzi to compensate for the loss of the Truncu Reale supply.
