Sassuolo Mayor's staff appointment sparks political dispute

The appointment of Matteo Balestrazzi as Chief of Staff for Sassuolo Mayor Matteo Mesini has sparked political debate between the local administration and the opposition.

The Democratic Party (PD) defended the selection, stating that Balestrazzi was chosen through a transparent process following a rigorous CV review and interviews conducted by the Mayor. They highlighted his professional background, including two degrees and seven years of experience in the Emilia-Romagna Region, to counter accusations of political favoritism.

Conversely, the Fratelli d’Italia party has criticized the decision, questioning the necessity of the role given the city's budget constraints. The opposition argues that public resources should be prioritized for urban maintenance, security, and services rather than expanding the Mayor's staff. They further alleged that the appointment is politically motivated due to Balestrazzi's ties to the Democratic Party.
