Sassuolo commemorates anniversary of the Battle of Palazzo Ducale

A commemorative ceremony was held at the Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Palazzo Ducale. The event honors the beginning of the local Resistance in September 1943.

The ceremony included the laying of a laurel wreath at the memorial dedicated to General Ugo Ferrero, who died during the initial clashes against occupying forces. Attendees included representatives from combatant and armed forces associations, law enforcement, and a delegation from the Modena Military Academy led by Brigadier General Fulvio Menegazzo.

Sassuolo Mayor Matteo Mesini described the date as fundamental to the history of both the city and Italy, noting that the battle marked the first act of resistance against the Nazi-fascist invasion and paved the way for the nation's liberation and democratic institutions.
