Gioia Tauro officials react to threats against Mayor Scarcella

The administration and former mayor of Gioia Tauro have expressed strong support for Mayor Simona Scarcella following serious intimidation attempts. The local executive reported that Scarcella was targeted by two grave acts of intimidation at her private residence, including a direct threat against her children.

Former Mayor Aldo Alessio criticized the Mayor's public response, suggesting her claims regarding threats against her family and pet have exceeded the bounds of decency and are being used to portray her as a victim while undermining institutions like the Prefecture.

In contrast, members of the municipal council have expressed solidarity with Scarcella, criticizing the perceived silence of state institutions. They have called for concrete protective measures and warned of potential public protests if adequate security is not provided to protect the Mayor and the city.
