The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has implemented new taxi fare regulations, specifically updating fixed rates for trips to and from major airports. In Athens, the standard fare for trips within the small ring to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport has increased from 40 to 50 euros, while the night tariff (00:00 to 05:00) rises from 55 to 65 euros. In Thessaloniki, the standard fare to Macedonia Airport is now 28 euros, up from 25, with the night tariff increasing to 38 euros from 35. Additionally, waiting time charges have risen to 20 euros per hour for stays exceeding 20 minutes.

Despite these adjustments, Thymios Lymperopoulos, President of the Athens Taxi Drivers Union (SATA), has expressed significant concern regarding the industry's viability. He described the fare updates as a “tonifying injection” but warned that they do not fully offset the rising operational costs. Lymperopoulos emphasized that without a reduction in fuel taxes, it may soon become “impossible to operate.” He noted that rising fuel prices and the costs associated with the transition to electric vehicles are placing extreme pressure on drivers' incomes, especially as domestic demand fluctuates due to limited household disposable income.
