Satipo man sentenced for poisoning three dogs

A man in Satipo, Peru, has been sentenced to 3 years and 11 months of suspended prison time for cruelty against domestic animals. Bernardo Zósimo Torres Cano, 52, poisoned three dogs—named Blanquita, Ceniza, and Zeus—by placing insecticide in food.

Video surveillance footage showed Torres Cano feeding the animals shortly before they died. While the defendant claimed the dogs had bitten him repeatedly, prosecutors noted there were no official reports to substantiate claims of animal aggression. The court imposed conduct rules that must be followed during the suspended sentence period.
