Satomi Suzuki wins silver and sets Japanese record in 50m breaststroke

Satomi Suzuki won the silver medal in the women's 50m breaststroke at the Asian Games held at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Clocking in at 29.91 seconds, Suzuki set a new Japanese national record, becoming the first Japanese woman to break the 30-second barrier in this event.

At 35 years old, Suzuki has now secured medals in five consecutive Asian Games, bringing her total medal count to ten. While she finished behind China's Tang Xianli, the performance marks a significant milestone for the veteran swimmer as she looks toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

In addition to Suzuki's achievement, other notable results included Tomoyuki Matsushita winning the men's 200m individual medley and Takumi Hojo winning the men's triathlon, marking Japan's first gold medal of the competition.
