Satou Sabally steps away from New York Liberty due to head injuries

New York Liberty forward Satou Sabally is stepping away from the team indefinitely to recover from ongoing head injuries. While she has cleared the WNBA concussion protocol, she is not yet back to 100 percent health and is currently managing persistent symptoms.

This marks Sabally’s second significant head injury within the last 12 months. The injury occurred on June 23 during a game against the Las Vegas Aces when she was struck in the face. Liberty coach Chris DeMarco stated that the team is prioritizing her health and allowing her the necessary time to recover under the guidance of the performance team.

The absence is a significant blow to the German national team, as Sabally is a key leader for the German Basketball Federation (DBB). Her recovery timeline is uncertain, which casts doubt on her availability for the upcoming World Championship hosted in Germany this September.
