SATSE denounces failure to hire 300 promised school nurses
The Spanish Technical-Health Assistants Union (SATSE) has denounced the failure of the Health Department to fulfill a promise to hire approximately 300 school nurses. Despite an announcement made three years ago by Health Counselor Marciano Gómez, the union reports that no specialized nursing staff has been deployed to educational centers for the start of the current school year.
SATSE criticized the current workaround, where schools are provided with a corporate mobile number for a nurse assigned to a local health center to be contacted during emergencies. The union described this as an insufficient “apaño” (fix) and a “fiasco” by the Health Department, noting that 15 million euros were included in the 2025 budgets for this purpose, yet the promised hiring has not materialized.
