SATSE union demands qualified nurses in Aragon schools

The SATSE nursing union has called upon the Aragon Department of Education to ensure the presence of qualified nurses in schools hosting students with chronic or complex health conditions. The union argues that the Department has sufficient information prior to the start of the school year to identify students requiring medical care and should provide the necessary professionals to ensure academic safety and equality.

SATSE expressed specific concern regarding an incident in one educational center where a nurse was reportedly replaced by a professional from a different category lacking the required competencies for certain medical tasks. The union noted that this substitution could compromise student care, particularly for diabetic students using subcutaneous infusion pumps. Such students require specialized monitoring and precise insulin dose adjustments based on physical activity and food intake, tasks that require specific professional expertise regulated by health legislation.
