Saturday Mothers demand answers for Fehmi Tosun 31 years after disappearance

The Saturday Mothers (Cumartesi Anneleri) held their 1,125th weekly protest at Galatasaray Square to demand information regarding the fate of Fehmi Tosun. Tosun, a father of five, was forcibly taken from his home in Avcılar, Istanbul, on October 19, 1995, in the presence of his wife and children.

According to family accounts, three armed individuals in civilian clothing arrived in a white Renault vehicle and forcibly removed Tosun from his residence after he shouted that he was going to be killed. Despite immediate reports to local police and subsequent legal efforts, his disappearance remained unacknowledged by authorities at the time.

While the European Court of Human Rights ruled in 2003 that the investigation into the incident was insufficient and violated the right to life, the family states that no effective investigation or prosecution of those responsible has occurred. The protest continues to seek truth and justice for Tosun and others disappeared in custody.
