Saturday Night Live musical guest history and potential rock debuts

Since its debut in 1975, Saturday Night Live has featured nearly 1,000 musical guest appearances across more than 50 seasons. Paul Simon holds the record for the most individual appearances with 18 episodes, including both solo performances and duets. He was also the first individual to serve as both host and musical guest in a single episode.

Dave Grohl is noted as the most frequent overall artist or collaborator, having performed on sixteen episodes since 1992. While the show has hosted a diverse range of genres and eras, several prominent rock artists have yet to make an appearance on the program.
