Satyendar Jain arrested in Delhi Jal Board tender corruption case

Former Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) sewage treatment plant (STP) tendering process. Jain is among six individuals taken into custody, including former DJB CEO Udit Prakash Rai, former consultant Ankit Srivastava, and several private business owners.

The ACB alleges that tender conditions were manipulated with restrictive technical specifications to favor Euroteck Environment Pvt. Ltd., thereby limiting competition. Investigators also claim a bribe trail of approximately ₹1.52 crore involving the former CEO. The case follows a complaint from the Directorate of Vigilance regarding criminal conspiracy and large-scale irregularities in the augmentation and upgradation of STPs.

In court, the Rouse Avenue Court remanded Jain and four others to 14 days of judicial custody, while Ankit Srivastava was granted two days of police custody. The court rejected Jain’s plea to declare the arrest illegal and has scheduled bail hearings for August 25.

AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh, have condemned the arrest as a “political vendetta” and a conspiracy by the BJP to suppress the party ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. They noted that Jain was already in jail during the period the alleged irregularities occurred.
