Saudel Tropical Cyclone triggers weather warnings in Indonesia

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued warnings regarding extreme weather triggered by the Saudel Tropical Cyclone in the northeast Pacific Ocean near Papua. The cyclone, characterized by a pressure of 990 hPa and maximum wind speeds of 55 knots, is expected to induce low-level jets and convergence zones, potentially increasing rainfall across various Indonesian regions.

In response to heat and dry conditions, the Jakarta Provincial Government is utilizing Weather Modification Operations (OMC). While Governor Pramono Anung noted that previous attempts were limited by a lack of available clouds, a new operation has been scheduled for Friday, August 21, to take advantage of predicted cloud cover. The goal is to trigger artificial rain to cool the city, though officials cautioned that success depends on atmospheric conditions and carries a potential risk of flooding.
