Saudi Ambassador Al Jaber accuses Houthis of exploiting crises to fund war

Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, has accused the Houthi militia of exploiting humanitarian and economic crises to exert political pressure and fund military activities. In a series of statements, Al Jaber asserted that the group avoids national dialogue and peace roadmap commitments while involving Yemen in regional conflicts.

Al Jaber highlighted the destruction of Sanaa International Airport and four seized Yemen Airways aircraft in May 2025, noting that previous initiatives to restore flights, including an Jordanian proposal for Amman–Sanaa routes, were rejected. He also criticized the ongoing blockade of Taiz, which restricts civilian access to food and medicine.

Citing a United Nations expert report, the Ambassador detailed the militia's diverse revenue streams. He stated that the Houthis utilize the telecommunications sector to fund drone weapons and coastal forces. Furthermore, the group collected approximately 994 billion riyals in fuel customs duties through Hodeidah ports between April 2022 and June 2024, with total income from the fuel sector estimated at 1.34 trillion riyals. Al Jaber also estimated that the Houthis earn roughly $2 billion annually from smuggled oil.
