Saudi Arabia and Singapore to store crude oil in Jurong Rock Caverns
Saudi Arabia and Singapore have announced plans to store Saudi crude oil in the Jurong Rock Caverns on Jurong Island, with operations expected to begin in the second half of 2027. The announcement was made by the energy ministries of both nations during the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW).
A memorandum of understanding has been exchanged between Saudi Aramco and Singaporean entities, including the Energy Market Authority and JTC Corporation, as an initial step toward implementing the arrangements. The move aims to enhance the resilience and reliability of the Saudi crude supply chain to Southeast Asia.
For Singapore, the storage capacity—which can hold up to nine million barrels—serves as a strategic buffer to meet energy needs during potential supply disruptions. The agreement is viewed as a significant milestone in bilateral energy cooperation and reinforces Singapore’s position as a major regional energy hub.
