Saudi Arabia and Türkiye back Red Sea maritime security initiatives
Saudi Arabia has expressed support for a United Nations Security Council statement condemning Houthi missile attacks against the kingdom and commercial vessels. The Saudi Foreign Ministry called for stronger international action to enforce UN resolutions, specifically Resolution 2216, to ensure regional stability and protect maritime transportation and international trade.
In a shift toward regional security management, Türkiye has signaled its support for a Saudi-led multinational maritime defense coalition in the Red Sea. While Türkiye has not formally joined, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's endorsement suggests a move toward a security architecture shaped by Middle Eastern powers rather than external actors. This development reflects improving Turkish-Saudi relations and a growing trend of regional countries organizing collective security mechanisms to protect vital maritime corridors.
