Saudi Arabia and UAE participate in 6th IAEA Ministerial Conference

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates participated in the sixth IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy held in Incheon, South Korea. The event, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency in cooperation with the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, brought together ministers, experts, and decision-makers to discuss nuclear energy's role in clean energy, security, and sustainable development.

Representing Saudi Arabia, Prince Dr. Mamdouh bin Saud bin Thunayan, CEO of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, emphasized that nuclear energy is a long-term strategic option for the Kingdom. He noted that the national atomic energy program aims to diversify energy sources, support economic development, and build high-tech industries in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, while maintaining a commitment to peaceful uses and international safety standards.

The UAE delegation, led by Hamad Al Kaabi, Director General of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, participated in discussions regarding effective regulation, safety, and non-proliferation. The UAE delegation also held meetings with South Korean nuclear safety and security institutions to discuss small modular reactors, export controls, and the application of artificial intelligence in regulatory activities.
