Saudi Arabia and UK discuss maritime security and regional stability
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has emphasized that the Kingdom’s security and sovereignty are non-negotiable. Speaking at a BRICS summit, he called for de-escalation in the region and stressed the necessity of protecting international maritime corridors, specifically mentioning the Strait of Hormuz, to prevent disruptions to global supply chains and economic growth.
In a separate diplomatic development, Prince Faisal bin Farhan held discussions with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband regarding maritime security. Miliband expressed the United Kingdom’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia following repeated attacks by Houthi militias. The two officials discussed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and other strategic waterways to protect global trade and energy supplies.
The diplomatic efforts follow recent security incidents, including Houthi projectile attacks in the Jazan region of Saudi Arabia and threats to energy infrastructure. Meanwhile, shifts in control within Yemen, including Houthi advances near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, continue to impact the security of vital shipping lanes.
