Saudi Arabia and UK intensify immigration and illegal labor enforcement

Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom have reported significant increases in immigration and illegal labor enforcement actions.

In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Interior announced that 14,440 individuals were arrested during a week-long nationwide crackdown between July 30 and August 5. Of those, 10,827 people were deported following violations of residency, labor, and border security laws. The ministry noted that 32,012 foreigners are currently undergoing legal procedures. Authorities warned that assisting in the illegal entry, housing, or employment of violators could result in up to 15 years in prison and fines of 1 million Riyal.

In the United Kingdom, the Home Office reported that Immigration Enforcement officers arrested 4,756 people for working illegally during the first half of 2026, marking a 20 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2025. The government conducted 7,270 raids on businesses, a 31 per cent year-on-year rise. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that enforcement has reached its highest level in British history. Starting October 1, employers in the gig economy found hiring illegal workers could face fines of up to £60,000 per worker or five years in prison.
