Saudi Arabia Approves General Education Law

King Salman issued a royal decree approving a new General Education Law that creates a single framework for governing schools across Saudi Arabia. The legislation aligns the education sector with Vision 2030 by clarifying the roles of the Ministry of Education, the General Education Affairs Council and related bodies, and by introducing unified operational rules for all learning stages, academic pathways, e‑learning and adult education.

The law opens the sector to private and non‑profit investment, sets transparent standards for school supervision, and emphasizes human‑rights protections for students and teachers. It also stresses family involvement and includes provisions for early‑childhood education, students with disabilities and gifted learners, aiming to raise overall education quality and expand choices for families.

Education Minister Yousef Al‑Benyan thanked the king and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, describing the approval as a pivotal step toward reforming general education and improving regulatory efficiency nationwide.
