Saudi Arabia condemns Iranian attacks and asserts right to self-defense

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has condemned what he described as ‘brutal Iranian attacks’ against Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries. Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly, the minister emphasized the Kingdom’s right to defend its sovereignty and security.

Addressing regional stability, the minister called for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities regarding regional security and the freedom of international navigation, specifically mentioning the need to restore the Strait of Hormuz to its normal state. He noted that security should be based on mutual respect rather than hegemony.

Regarding specific conflicts, the minister supported a comprehensive political settlement in Yemen and welcomed Security Council condemnations of Houthi attacks against the Kingdom and commercial vessels. He also addressed the crises in Sudan, Syria, and Lebanon, advocating for sovereignty and stability in those nations. Additionally, he reiterated the Kingdom’s rejection of attempts to displace the Palestinian people and stressed the importance of a region free from weapons of mass destruction.

Jassim Mohammed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), expressed full support for Saudi Arabia’s measures to protect its sovereignty. He condemned Houthi ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting Riyadh and Khamis Mushait, labeling them a flagrant violation of Saudi sovereignty and a threat to civilian safety.
