Saudi Arabia implements advanced cooling systems at the Holy Mosques

The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the An-Nabawi Mosque is utilizing advanced engineering and modern technologies to maintain moderate temperatures for visitors in the Holy Mosques. This integrated system addresses rising temperatures across Saudi Arabia by cooling areas from the external courtyards to the internal prayer halls.

In the external courtyards, mist fans are used to lower perceived temperatures. Additionally, the use of Thassos marble for flooring helps mitigate heat absorption; the marble's fine pores absorb moisture at night and release it during the day to cool the surface.

Inside the Grand Mosque, a central cooling system with a total capacity of approximately 155,000 tons of refrigeration maintains temperatures between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius. For the An-Nabawi Mosque, a central cooling station located 7 kilometers west provides balanced air distribution through six units, each with a capacity of 3,400 tons of refrigeration.
