Saudi Arabia implements new import rules for toy weapons and air rifles
Twelve government entities in Saudi Arabia have adopted a comprehensive new guide to regulate the import, storage, and transportation of toy weapons, air rifles, and antique firearms intended for sports and recreational use. The initiative aims to enhance public safety and security by establishing strict legal frameworks for these activities.
To import individual or air rifles, applicants must hold a valid business license from the Ministry of Sports and a valid commercial registration. The process requires submitting detailed quantities, technical catalogs, and designated entry and storage locations to the Ministry of Sports, which then refers the application to the Public Security Directorate’s Weapons and Explosives Department for permit issuance.
Specific requirements for air rifles include a minimum applicant age of 25, a clean criminal record, and approval from both Public Security for storage and Civil Defense for safety. Additionally, importers must provide an unconditional bank guarantee of 500,000 SAR and maintain an electronic inventory tracking system. For antique firearms, applicants must be at least 22 years old and provide documentation proving the items were manufactured before 1900 AD.
