Saudi Arabia intercepts Yemen‑launched ballistic missiles targeting Red Sea refinery

Saudi air‑defence forces used a U.S.-made Patriot system operated by Greek personnel to track and destroy two ballistic missiles and a drone launched from Houthi‑controlled Yemen on Saturday. The projectiles were aimed at the Yanbu oil refinery on the Red Sea coast, prompting civil‑defence warnings for Yanbu and nearby Jizan. The attacks came a day after the United States carried out airstrikes on Iranian positions, and President Trump warned of “heavy military punishment” for continued Houthi actions.

Saudi-led coalition aircraft also conducted four airstrikes on the Yemeni port of Al‑Hodeidah and Kamaran island, hitting telecom facilities and injuring a woman on Kamaran. A Saudi vessel sailing in the Red Sea suffered minor damage from a Houthi attack, drawing condemnation from the United Nations and prompting further Saudi defensive measures.
