President Donald Trump has submitted a proposed 30-year civil nuclear energy agreement with Saudi Arabia to the U.S. Congress for review. The accord, reached in July, would allow American companies to export civilian nuclear technology to the kingdom, including the construction of AP1000 reactors. This project is estimated to be worth tens of billions of dollars and would benefit Westinghouse, a company jointly owned by Canada-based Cameco and Brookfield Asset Management.

However, the administration has maintained that the agreement is contingent upon Saudi Arabia normalizing relations with Israel by joining the Abraham Accords. While diplomats previously believed Riyadh was close to such a move in 2023, the conflict in Gaza has complicated the diplomatic landscape. Saudi Arabia has stated that formal recognition of Israel is dependent on a credible and irreversible path toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
