Saudi Arabia proposes two-week ceasefire to Ansar Allah via Oman
Saudi Arabia has proposed a two-week ceasefire to the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen, mediated through Oman. The proposal, which follows diplomatic contacts with the United States, Egypt, and Pakistan, aims to address humanitarian needs and eventually lead to a comprehensive agreement to end the conflict.
In conjunction with the ceasefire offer, Riyadh has expressed readiness to lift blockades on Yemen and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid. However, Ansar Allah has shown hesitation toward the proposal. The group maintains that it seeks a final, comprehensive solution to the conflict, viewing the current situation as a struggle between Saudi Arabia and Yemen rather than an internal Yemeni matter.
Ansar Allah’s specific demands include the complete military, security, and political withdrawal of Saudi Arabia from Yemen, the cessation of all air, land, and sea blockades, and the establishment of a fund to compensate for damages to Yemeni infrastructure. Additionally, the group has rejected Saudi-sponsored Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue, labeling it as external interference in internal affairs.
The diplomatic push comes amid reports of a sudden collapse in military forces led by Tariq Saleh, according to a CENTCOM assessment. This shift follows Ansar Allah’s recent seizure of strategic areas along the Red Sea coast and the Bab al-Mandab strait.
