Saudi Arabia warns of maritime threats at G20 meeting

During the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta, USA, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held bilateral discussions with counterparts from Germany, Brazil, France, and Japan. A central theme of these meetings was the growing threat to maritime security in the Bab el-Mandeb and Strait of Hormuz, which has impacted global trade and supply chains.

Saudi officials highlighted the ongoing Houthi militia attacks against the Kingdom and the risks posed to regional maritime navigation. These discussions occurred against a backdrop of regional instability following the outbreak of war with Iran in February 2026, which has disrupted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz since March 2026.

In Yemen, security forces in Aden reportedly detained individuals linked to the Houthi militia. These individuals were allegedly involved in intelligence activities, including photographing Aden International Airport and monitoring military movements to gather information on vital installations.
