Saudi Arabia to expand autonomous vehicle use nationwide
Saudi Arabia is set to expand the use of autonomous vehicles across all cities in the Kingdom following a successful pilot program in Riyadh. The Transport General Authority (TGA) announced that it will soon begin issuing commercial licenses for driverless operations after a testing phase that recorded zero traffic accidents.
This initiative is part of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 to create an AI-driven, sustainable mobility network. The autonomous vehicles utilize artificial intelligence, radar, lidar, and cameras to navigate. To support this infrastructure, the TGA and King Abdulaziz University have also launched specialized educational programs to build national expertise in the sector.
