Saudi Arabia to Host One of Century's Longest Solar Eclipses in August 2027

Saudi Arabia will witness a total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027. The eclipse’s path of totality will sweep across the western and southern parts of the kingdom, delivering nearly six minutes of darkness in places such as Abha, while Jeddah and the Red Sea coast will experience about five minutes 50 seconds of totality. Cities including Mecca, Taif, Al Baha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran will also fall within the total‑eclipse corridor.

The Saudi Space Agency says the event positions the kingdom among the world’s best locations for observing and documenting a total eclipse, and neighboring Egypt is expected to see the maximum duration as well. Scientists and sky‑watchers will have a rare opportunity to study the Sun’s corona, while the public is urged to view the eclipse safely using certified eclipse glasses or filtered equipment. During totality, daylight will briefly resemble twilight and temperatures are expected to drop noticeably.
