Saudi Arabia utilizes US AI targeting tools amid Yemen escalation
Saudi Arabia has increased its use of United States intelligence and artificial intelligence-powered targeting tools to counter ballistic missile and drone attacks from the Houthi movement in Yemen. The technology, modeled on the U.S. military’s Project Maven, aggregates intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance data to accelerate the ‘kill chain’—the process of detecting, assessing, and striking targets.
Reports indicate that between 100 and 200 U.S. troops are stationed in the kingdom as part of a joint command structure to share real-time battlefield data. This technological integration follows a period of heightened cross-border tension, during which Saudi air defenses intercepted 14 aerial threats, including 11 ballistic missiles, a cruise missile, and two drones, within a twelve-hour window.
Simultaneously, intelligence reports have highlighted the existence of a fortified underground military base in the Shabwah Governorate. Located within the Murrah Camp, the facility reportedly features a complex network of tunnels, aircraft hangars, and advanced monitoring systems used to manage Saudi-led forces and their factions in the region.
