Saudi Arabia weather alert: Heavy thunderstorms and flash floods expected

The National Center of Meteorology has forecasted moderate to heavy thunderstorms across several regions of Saudi Arabia for Monday, September 7, 2026. The weather patterns are expected to bring hail and potential flash flooding, particularly in Al Bahah, Asir, Jazan, and parts of Makkah. Additionally, thunderclouds may form over Najran, southern parts of the Eastern Province and Riyadh, and the highlands of Madinah.

Wind activity is expected to trigger dust and sandstorms, which may reduce horizontal visibility, especially along the coastal areas of Madinah and Makkah. In the Red Sea, winds are projected to reach speeds of up to 50 km/h near the Gulf of Aqaba, with wave heights potentially reaching 2.5 meters, creating moderate to turbulent sea conditions. In the Arabian Gulf, conditions are expected to remain relatively calm with light waves.

The General Directorate of Civil Defense has issued safety advisories, urging citizens and residents to avoid valleys and flood paths, stay away from beaches during high waves, and exercise caution while driving due to reduced visibility. Authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary travel and securing loose objects that could be displaced by wind.
